In Canada’s general elections, Mark Carney’s Liberal Party is emerging as the clear winner. At the time of reporting, the party appears poised to secure 168 seats, just shy of the 172 required for a majority government.
Carney’s strong stance against anti-Canada rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump is widely believed to have played a key role in his electoral success, though he also campaigned on a range of domestic promises.
In his victory speech, Carney addressed his supporters, stating, “President Trump is trying to divide us so that America can dominate us — but that will never happen.”
He added, “Our long-standing relationship with the United States is over. We’ve moved past the shock of America’s betrayal. Now, it’s time for us to stand together and take care of each other.”
Mark Carney has acknowledged the housing shortage and rising inflation in Canada. He pledged to double the number of homes built each year, ensuring they are affordable. According to him, this would not only address the housing crisis but also boost the construction sector and help curb inflation.
Carney also proposed easing the tax burden on low-income individuals to provide financial relief to vulnerable consumers.
He expressed a bold vision of transforming Canada into an energy superpower, emphasizing the need to reduce the country’s dependence on American energy. He vowed to invest in domestic energy infrastructure to strengthen national resilience.
Carney further committed to increasing Canada’s defense budget compared to the previous year, highlighting national security as a key priority.
He also advocated for strengthening domestic trade and expressed a desire to expand the automobile industry. As part of this plan, Carney announced an initiative to boost the production of car parts within Canada.
